Ambient Persuasive Guiding Measures: Influencing pedestrian walking behaviour at bottlenecks in the London Underground
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents solutions for particular problems commuters encounter during the walking phase of their journey in public transport facilities. Commuters get obstructed or have collisions at bottleneck situations making their walking inefficient and stressful. The notion presented in this paper is to reinforce existing infrastructures with embedded ambient persuasive technologies acting as psychological guiding measures to enhance pedestrian flow.

Field observations of factors influencing walking speeds
This study measures pedestrian walking speeds in New Zealand to estimate the influences of mean walking speeds as these concern urban planning and pedestrian facility design. Research was conducted using field observations of walking speeds under different conditions: gradient and urban/rural townships. The data show complex interrelationships between environment, personal characteristics of pe...

Underground pedestrian systems (UPS) have been developed worldwide especially in the central areas of mega cities. They are integrated with subway systems, underground shopping streets and malls, and the basement of department stores in various forms and integrated with commerce, transport, retailing and public usage in urban functions. In cities with severe weather conditions such as Toronto a...

There are many evident that people are more interested in walking in attractive urban spaces and inappropriate physical and psychological condition can reduce their presence in a remarkable amount. The current research investigates the influence of physical design and psychological elements and their criteria on selective physical activity and specifically walking in urban public spaces. Howeve...
متن کاملLateral excitation of bridges by balancing pedestrians
On its opening day, the London Millennium Bridge (LMB) experienced unexpected large amplitude lateral vibrations due to crowd loading. This form of pedestrian–structure interaction has since been identified on several other bridges of various structural forms. The mechanism has generally been attributed to ‘pedestrian synchronous lateral excitation’ or ‘pedestrian lock-in’. However, some of the...
متن کاملModelling social identification and helping in evacuation simulation
Social scientists have criticised computer models of pedestrian streams for their treatment of psychological crowds as mere aggregations of individuals. Indeed most models for evacuation dynamics use analogies from physics where pedestrians are considered as particles. Although this ensures that the results of the simulation match important physical phenomena, such as the deceleration of the cr...
